Most career events end with a bag of brochures and a few good conversations. This fall, one statewide event ended with more than 300 applications for career opportunities.
The Governor's Youth Summit in Kearney, Nebraska sold out in its second year. It was organized by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development in collaboration with CareerPathway.com. Here are the official results.
Before the event, Students set up a CareerPathway.com profile. That let them browse opportunities ahead of time and decide which employers they most wanted to meet.
So when the doors opened, they were not wandering from table to table. They walked in with a plan. Over the day they explored hundreds of careers, through face-to-face conversations and in the app.
Sponsors did more than set up a booth. They offered real opportunities, and Students applied on the spot. Students also searched for employers by name, the same way they search for colleges. The most-searched Businesses included FNBO, General Dynamics, Google, Klute, Inc. and Valmont Industries.
That is the real value for an employer: young people looking you up because they want to know what it is like to work for you.
A great career event does not start at the door. It starts weeks before, when Students can see the opportunities and pick their first conversations. And it does not end at the exit, because every connection and application can keep going after the day is over.
That turns a one-day event into measurable results: applications, scholarships and new connections, not just foot traffic.
Events like this can be powered by CareerPathway.com. Students, Individuals, Educators, Colleges and Businesses all meet in one place, before, during and after the big day. Every young person deserves to see what's possible, and to have a path to get there.
